Rescue Stories

Every animal we save has a story worth telling. These are the faces and journeys that remind us why rescue work matters, from those who were out of time in crowded shelters to those who endured neglect and hardship before finding hope. Each story represents teamwork, compassion, and the belief that every life deserves a second chance. At VIP RSQ, we are proud to share these transformations and honor the people who make them possible.

Derek

Derek, a gentle boxer mix, was just hours away from being euthanized at a high-kill Los Angeles shelter. When VIP RSQ learned about him, our team rushed to save his life. He suffered from a fractured leg and a painful ear infection, but after receiving orthopedic surgery and ongoing care, Derek made a full recovery. Today, he’s healthy, happy, and thriving in his forever home.

Max

Max and his siblings were rescued from rural Oklahoma in February 2022 after their mother was abandoned at a rundown shelter. Once VIP RSQ located the pups living outdoors in harsh conditions, they were all safely surrendered and brought into care. Max, who was born deaf, was fostered for two months by Kathleen before finding his forever home with a family experienced in caring for deaf dogs. He’s now thriving, loved, and even comes back for visits every few months.

Rural Oklahoma Shelter

This mother dog and her puppies were found in a small, overcrowded rural Oklahoma shelter with no time left on their hold. When VIP RSQ learned about their situation, we acted immediately to rescue the family and give them a second chance. Thanks to our volunteers and fosters, they were safely transported, received the care they needed, and were later adopted into loving homes.

Bolt – Carnegie, Oklahoma Shelter

VIP RSQ was alerted to a severely run-down shelter in Carnegie, Oklahoma, where dogs were living in poor conditions and facing euthanasia. Among them was Bolt; a gentle, resilient boy who stole our hearts the moment we saw him. After his rescue, Bolt was brought into VIP RSQ’s care and has been living like a king with our founder, Kathleen. His story is a reminder that even in the most neglected shelters, there are hidden gems waiting for a chance at love and a home.

Sebastian – Yale, Oklahoma Shelter

Sebastian had every obstacle stacked against him; an older dog with severe skin and dental issues, heartworm, and even embedded gun pellets, left outdoors in freezing temperatures at the Yale, Oklahoma pound. When VIP RSQ learned of his situation in December 2018, co-founder Gina immediately stepped in to foster him. Under her care, Sebastian blossomed into a healthy, loving companion and was eventually adopted by Gina herself. He spent his remaining years surrounded by comfort and love, proving that senior dogs with challenges still have so much life, and heart, left to give.

Rural Oklahoma House Rescue

In February 2022, VIP RSQ was contacted about a mother dog and eight puppies living under a house in rural Oklahoma. The team quickly coordinated three separate rescue missions to bring them safely to St. Louis. The first transport carried three pups, followed by another three the next week, and finally, the last two puppies and their mother arrived together. Thanks to the teamwork of volunteers and fosters, this family was brought out of unsafe conditions and into loving homes where they could grow healthy and happy.

Saved from the Euthanasia List

Kenny was listed for euthanasia and medically flagged, so time was running out. After reviewing his medical notes, our team learned that his spondylosis was manageable with care and not a reason to give up on him. Thanks to our incredible volunteer Mindy, we were able to rush Kenny to the vet for evaluation and place him with a loving foster who later adopted him. Today, Kenny is thriving, proving that a little extra care can give a dog a whole new life. His joyful spirit and endless energy remind us why we fight for every chance.
